Anyone can Write Anything on Medium.

Want to make up facts and statistics and see who buys into it? Then have I got news for you.

I just signed up for Medium moments ago. All I did was sign in through Google. I just learned of this site, and within a couple clicks, BOOM, I’m a “journalist”. It’s that easy!

Now I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the greatest writer out there. My grammar leaves much to be desired, and if it weren’t for spellcheck peers would be trying to decode my messages with the Rosetta Stone. But there are plenty of people out there who are much more eloquent than I am when it comes to putting pen to paper- or fingers to keyboard as it were.

Anyone with good language and writing skills, and a powerful enough agenda, can write a convincing article about anything on here. Does that mean everyone joins for the sake of spreading lies and misinformation? Of course not. But this is a warning that goes out to those one source devotees.

If you find an article telling you something, no matter how legit it may seem, find more sources. And try to do so without hunting via phrases that will pull up confirmation bias. Even if it’s not Medium, even if it’s a source you think you can trust through past experience, ALWAYS go looking for more evidence.
